The world’s most pressing challenges—whether human rights, economic development, poverty and inequality or climate change—require a multidisciplinary approach. As a global affairs major, you’ll gain skills in multiple disciplines, including policy, ethics and politics and learn to integrate scholarship with practice to solve real-world problems. You’ll graduate ready to navigate complexity and lead with purpose in our interconnected, multicultural world.
The major offers a flexible curriculum, allowing you to shape your own studies according to your interests. Courses explore global economic issues, international development and poverty, foreign policy and diplomacy, and international relations, with a particular focus on conflict resolution and peace building. You can also choose to focus on a specific region or area of the world.
Our interdisciplinary, research-driven program equips you with the knowledge and experience to succeed as a leader in government agencies; NGOs, nonprofits or foundations; or corporations that operate across borders. With our career-connected programs, you’ll be equipped to work around the world and tackle the most challenging issues of our time.
The major requires students to take a language course designated L4 or higher; and two of the following courses: GLBL 3101 (Challenges in Global Affairs), a global studies field course, or a graduate level seminar; or a senior project in GLBL 4499 or a senior essay in a substantive seminar or GLBL 4500 (Global Affairs Senior Essay). Up to four credits from summer term or study abroad may be counted toward the requirement with DUS approval after transfer to Yale.
